In about a week.
In about a week, I will step across a stage at my school and get a diploma.
In about a week, I will be the third and final girl in my family to graduate from LHS.
In about a week, I will say goodbye to the people who have touched my life for the last 12 years for the last time ever.
In about a week, I will say goodbye to the town that raised me, from the time when I was a shy 6 year-old, an outsider. The town that lifted me up when I was down. The town that held me up until my last day there. The town that will forever be in my heart.
And I couldn’t be more afraid.
You see I had to move halfway through what should have been my senior year. I had to graduate mid-year so I didn’t have to go to a random school for my last semester of high school. And I’m going back to walk with my class, then say goodbye to all of them forever.
The reality hasn’t really set in yet, but I know that I’m not ready. I will cry from the moment I put on my gown until the moment I leave, and probably long long after that.
As I walk across the stage, I know what will happen. Twelve wonderful years will flash before my eyes, and I will absolutely lose it. I am so happy I made it this far. Yet I won’t let myself accept the fact that it’s all over. Forever. High school where did you go?
